Senator Istifanus D. Gyang has condemned the killing of eight persons and the injuring of six others in a violent attack in Barkin Ladi Town, describing the incident as tragic, reprehensible, and unacceptable.
In a statement, the senator said the attack, which occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2026, was a painful reminder of the need to confront terror and criminality with urgency and unity.
“The tragic terror killing of eight innocent persons and six others left with gunshot injuries in Barkin Ladi Town is obnoxious and condemnable,” he said.
Gyang noted that every life lost to violence diminishes the collective humanity of society and deepens the wounds within communities already burdened by insecurity.
He recalled that residents of Barkin Ladi have lived together through seasons of peace and challenges, urging them not to allow enemies of peace to divide them along ethnic or religious lines.
“People in Barkin Ladi Town have coexisted through seasons of peace and challenges. At a time like this, we must not allow criminals and enemies of peace to divide us along ethnic or religious lines but rather isolate them,” he stated.
The senator stressed that criminality has no tribe, religion, or justification, and called on citizens to unite against those responsible for violence.
He further appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid any form of retaliation that could escalate tensions or lead to further bloodshed.
“I therefore call on all citizens to exercise restraint and resist every provocation capable of igniting reprisals or further bloodshed,” Gyang said.
He urged security agencies to intensify efforts toward arresting and prosecuting those behind the attack, insisting that justice must be pursued through lawful means.
The senator also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.
He prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and for lasting peace to return to Barkin Ladi and surrounding communities.
