The Governing Council of Plateau State University, Bokkos, has cancelled the ongoing process for the appointment of a substantive Registrar and approved the re-advertisement of the position.
The decision was contained in an internal memorandum dated August 14, 2026, signed by the University Registrar and Secretary to Council, Yakubu F. Ayuba, following a special meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, August 13.
According to the memorandum, the Council considered the report of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a new Registrar. It said the selection process had commenced but could not be concluded due to what it described as a hitch that could have “impugned the integrity of the process and that of the University.”
After considering the report, the Council resolved to cancel the appointment process, which began on June 10, 2026, and re-advertise the position, with a directive to conclude the process within three months.
The Council also approved a three-month extension of the tenure of the incumbent Registrar, effective from August 29 to November 28, 2026, to allow sufficient time for the appointment process to be completed.
It further clarified that candidates who had already been shortlisted and invited for interview would not be required to reapply when the position is re-advertised.
The Council assured members of the university community that due process would be followed in the new exercise to ensure that the most suitable candidate emerges as the next Registrar of the university.
