Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hon. Caroline P. Dafur, has received national recognition as the state emerged Best Performing State in Gender Mainstreaming 2026.
The award was presented to the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at the 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development (NCWACASD), held in Taraba State.
The recognition highlights Plateau State’s performance in promoting gender mainstreaming and advancing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare, empowerment and social development of women and vulnerable groups.
The Commissioner also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for her strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for women, children, vulnerable groups and families, as well as her advocacy for gender inclusion and the development of systems and structures to advance social development.
The certificate, dated August 12, 2026, was presented in recognition of Caroline’s contribution to efforts aimed at promoting gender inclusion and strengthening social development programmes.
Reacting to the honours, Caroline described the state’s award as a reflection of the collective efforts of women, girls, children, families, government officials and development partners across Plateau State.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his support and congratulated the ministry’s team and partners for contributing to what she described as a significant achievement for Plateau.
Caroline said the recognition would encourage the ministry to sustain its commitment to women’s economic empowerment and social development, while continuing to support programmes that improve the lives of women, children and vulnerable groups.
She also acknowledged the contributions of government institutions, civil society organisations and other partners involved in advancing gender mainstreaming and social development initiatives in the state.
The Commissioner said the achievement was not an end in itself, but a motivation to do more, stressing that the work of improving opportunities and strengthening social protection for women and families in Plateau State would continue.
The twin recognitions have placed the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Commissioner Caroline among those acknowledged at the national level for efforts towards gender mainstreaming and social development.
