Hon. Prof. Theodore Bala Maiyaki (SAN), Member Representing Quaan-Pan South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Judiciary, Ethics and Previlleges, led other House Committee members on a working visit to the Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning on Thursday April 3, 2025
In opening remarks, Prof. Maiyaki, who is the deputy chairman House Committee on Lands, Survey, and Town Planning, used the opportunity to extend warmest greetings to the ministry from the Hon. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan. Prof. Maiyaki remarked that the visit is a working visit to seek collaboration with the ministry to gain understanding on how the ministry operates, gain insight on the plan on how to make the ministry meet up with best global practices, have insight into the challenges of the ministry and how to navigate through these challenges among others.
Prof. Maiyaki further stated that the Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Town Planning is a very important ministry that requires collaboration for the best interest of the state, hence the need for collaboration between the Executive and the legislators. He concluded that it is hoped that after the interactive session, the House Committee members will gain insight into the challenges of the ministry and identify areas of collaboration in the interest of Plateau State.
Responding, the Hon. Commissioner of the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning- Barr. Peter Nyam Gai appreciated the House Committee members for this collaboration visit, describing it as timely considering now that the ministry is working harder, navigating through challenges to meet up with best global practices.
Hon. Gai narrated the achievement of the ministry since he assumed office to include, among others as systematic land registration, recertification, digitisation of staff files, land reforms, staff welfare, and training and improved IGR.
Hon. Gai added that among the major challenges of the ministry are power and shortage of staff, among others, while expressing gratitude to the Executive Governor of Plateau State for giving the necessary support to the ministry Hon. Gai concluded by seeking collaboration with the House Committee members to join hands together to move the ministry forward.
Prof. Maiyaki and other House Committee members were taken round the various departments of the ministry, including the site where renovation is ongoing. Among the House Committee members present were Hon. Nanbol Listick, Hon. Nimchak Laven, Mr. Nanpial and Hon. Hudu Bala.
The visit demonstrates Prof. Maiyaki’s commitment to fulfilling his legislative duties and showing determination to make positive contributions beyond Quaan-Pan South Constituency.
