The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, stated that his administration has provided quality leadership that brought back hope to the people of Plateau.
The Governor made this known on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos Plateau State capital, where he spoke on the giant strides made by his administration since coming into office over the past two years.
According to the Governor, although his administration hasn’t fulfilled all its campaign promises, it has given the people of Plateau hope that tomorrow will be better. This can be seen in the developmental strides his administration has made, with others still in progress.
On insecurity, Governor Mutfwang stated that although it has been one of his administration’s biggest distractions, which has overshadowed his success, he disclosed that there is no local government area in the state under the control of bandits and terrorists.
Mutfwang also pointed out the reinvigoration of Operation Rainbow, a local security outfit, as a key support system to federal agencies. Despite some public complaints, he asserted that its impact is evident and the administration plans to strengthen it further.
On education, the Governor noted that his administration has achieved course accreditations across Plateau State University, College of Health Technology Pankshin, College of Nursing Vom, College of Agriculture Garkawa, and College of Education Gindiri. Additionally, Plateau State University is expanding to include a Faculty of Medicine. His administration has constructed and renovated 148 classroom blocks across 17 LGAs and drilled boreholes across all 17 LGAs to improve learning.
In the health sector, he said his administration has completed the long-abandoned laboratory complex and injected N2 billion for modern equipment. At the grassroots level, the Plateau General Hospital Management Board has procured ultrasound machines for General Hospitals in all 17 LGAs, installed the first-ever X-ray machine at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Dadin Kowa, and reactivated General Hospitals at Mabudi and Kanke, fully equipped with drugs and consumables, among other initiatives.
The Governor further highlighted in detail his achievements in revamping Plateau’s economy, agriculture, judiciary, and other critical sectors for the benefit of the masses.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Director of Press to the Governor appreciated the media practitioners for telling the Plateau story, which, according to them, has been invaluable to the success of the administration.
NUJ Plateau State Chairperson, Ayuku Pwaspo, described the media chat as timely and vital, given the state’s current struggles with insecurity. SHe commended the Governor’s empathy for affected communities and praised the administration’s resolve to move forward with infrastructural development despite challenges.
While pledging NUJ’s continued support in rebuilding Plateau State through ethical and impactful journalism, she called for continued support for displaced persons and urged the government to address the longstanding infrastructural and staffing deficits at Plateau’s state-owned media organizations, including the Plateau Publishing Corporation and Plateau Radio Television Corporation.
The interactive session was attended by State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Joyce Ramnap, Commissioner for Works Hon. Ubandoma, Directors, and advisers, as well as journalists from the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Plateau State Independent Publishers Association, Plateau Bloggers Association, and Social Media Influencers in Jos.
Highlight of the parley was a question-and-answer session, where the governor duly addressed other additional issues raised.
