The Christian Counsellors and Caregivers Alliance of Nigeria (CCCAN) has certified 73 senior campus missionaries of the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students (NIFES) as professional counsellors and caregivers. The certification ceremony followed a three-day residential training programme held from 23 to 25 March 2026 at the NIFES Conference Centre, Kwali, Abuja.
The training programme, conducted under the theme “Healing the Broken, Equipping the Called”, covered topics such as Biblical Foundations of Christian Caregiving, Understanding Human Brokenness, and Core Counselling Skills. Participants also completed specialised modules under the Certified Youth and Student Care Practitioner (CYSCP) programme.
66 participants were inducted as Professional Members of CCCAN, while all 73 were certified as Youth and Student Care Practitioners. Each inductee publicly recited the CCCAN Professional Oath before receiving their certificates and membership documents.
The training was facilitated by renowned experts, including Rev. Dr. Enoch Adamu, Pastor Dr. Hankuri Tawus Gaya, and Dr. Peter Maji. Rev. James Akinyele delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony.
The certified missionaries, who have been serving on campuses without formal training, expressed gratitude for the skills and knowledge acquired. One participant noted, “I have sat with hundreds of students over the years… but I never knew whether I was helping or causing more harm.”
Another participant, in his first year of campus work, shared, “I was drowning quietly… now I have skills, I have ethics, and I have a professional community behind me.”
The certification brings CCCAN’s cumulative certifications to over 369 Professional Members and 57 Fellows. The next cohort is scheduled from 13 to 17 April 2026 at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria.
CCCAN aims to equip caregivers with professional skills to effectively serve students and young people. The organisation’s intervention is expected to change the way campus missionaries approach counselling and caregiving.
