The decisive and compassionate response of Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, in the aftermath of the tragic ambush on gallant personnel of the Nigerian Army and members of the local vigilante group, stands as a strong testament to responsible and people-centered leadership.
In a clear demonstration of solidarity and respect, the Chairman personally attended the funeral rites of the fallen heroes—brave men who paid the ultimate price in the defense of lives and property within Kanam. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army and all security agencies at all times, emphasizing that the safety of the people remains a top priority of his government.
Extending his compassion to the grassroots, the Chairman visited the affected communities where both the Nigerian Army and local vigilantes were attacked. He reached out to the widows and families of the fallen civilian vigilantes—men who courageously sacrificed their lives to defend their ancestral land. In a practical show of support, five widows were each provided with essential relief materials, including rice, vegetable oil, noodles, and the sum of ₦500,000.
Additionally, the family of the late Usman Musa Sarkin Bindiga, who left behind four wives and thirteen children, received special consideration with the donation of three bags of maize to cushion their hardship.
While commiserating with the bereaved families, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa acknowledged that no material compensation can replace the lives lost. However, he assured them of continuous government support, pledging that his administration would remain accessible and responsive to their needs, with regular follow-up visits to ensure their welfare is not neglected.
He further reassured the people that the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, is fully committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state. He noted the improved security presence in vulnerable areas, which has restored a sense of safety and allowed residents to sleep peacefully—an indication of proactive and effective governance.
In conclusion, the Chairman offered prayers for divine comfort and provision for the bereaved families, asking God to grant them strength and meet their needs in ways beyond human capacity. His actions and words reflect a leadership grounded in empathy, responsibility, and an unyielding commitment to the protection and welfare of the people of Kanam Local Government Area.
