The Plateau State Ministry of Education has announced a ban on the use of non-transferable textbooks and graduation ceremonies in all nursery, primary and secondary schools across the state.
In a statement dated 8th July, 2026 and signed by the Director of Quality Assurance, Sabastine John, the Ministry said the decision followed a stakeholder engagement held on 28th August, 2025 and a resolution passed by the Plateau State House of Assembly on 2nd September, 2025.
According to the announcement, the use of non-transferable textbooks is banned in all public and private nursery, primary, and secondary schools.
Graduation ceremonies and the wearing of academic gowns are prohibited in nursery, primary, and secondary schools, except during official Speech and Prize Giving Days.
The Ministry warned that any school found violating the directives will face sanctions, including immediate closure and withdrawal of operating licence.
Monitoring teams have been deployed across the state to ensure compliance.
Parents, proprietors, and school authorities have been urged to comply with the new directives.
The government said the measures are aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and promoting a more inclusive and affordable education system in Plateau State.
