It was a day of tears, tributes, and celebration of life as the Lalu family on Saturday, August 29, 2026, laid to rest their beloved son, brother, uncle, and father, Mr. Gayus David Lalu, who died after a brief illness.
The funeral rites began with the conveyance of his remains from the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH Lamingo, to his hometown, Mangun in Mangu Local Government Area. A funeral service was held at Central Primary School, Mangun before interment at the family burial ground in Luwe, Mangun.
The solemn ceremony drew a large gathering of family members, friends, political associates, colleagues, community leaders, and well-wishers who came to honour a man described as humble, kind-hearted, and deeply committed to his family and community.
Among dignitaries present were the Chairman of Mangu LGC, Hon. Emmanuel Mwolpun; Senator Diket Satso Plang, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District; as well as colleagues and associates of Hon. Chief Dr. Ishaya David Lalu, Member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency. Also in attendance were clergymen, traditional rulers, development association leaders, and other notable figures.
Paying tribute, Hon. Chief Dr. Ishaya David Lalu described his late brother as a “gentleman” whose life was defined by humility and genuine appreciation for people.
“He valued people and never took acts of love, support or kindness for granted,” he said, recalling the positive impact Mr. Gayus had on the family.
The atmosphere was deeply emotional as mourners reflected on his life and legacy. For the Lalu family, the day was not only one of grief but also of gratitude for a man who touched many lives.
After prayers for the repose of his soul, the remains of Mr. Gayus David Lalu were committed to mother earth at Luwe, Mangun.
The family called on God to grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this period of mourning.
