The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has condemned the alleged obstruction and threats faced by some of its officials during a sanitation exercise around the Chobe/Yankaji area of Jos.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026, the exercise was carried out alongside market leaders as part of efforts to improve sanitation and environmental health standards in the area, which is known for the preparation and sale of meat.

PEPSA said its personnel were prevented from carrying out the exercise when some market operators allegedly confronted and threatened them, prompting security personnel to intervene and evacuate the officials and market union leaders.

The Agency said one person sustained an injury during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

PEPSA urged traders, market leaders and residents to remain calm, stressing that disagreements over sanitation enforcement should be resolved through dialogue and lawful channels rather than threats or physical obstruction.

The Agency also thanked security personnel for their intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out its statutory responsibility of protecting public health and the environment across Plateau State.
