As Nigerians celebrate the country’s Independence Day, Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD) the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Governorship candidate for Plateau State has urged citizens to protect the freedom of their conscience and make thoughtful choices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an Independence Day message, Damiyal said the celebration was a reminder that freedom goes beyond the independence of the nation, noting that citizens also have the responsibility to make choices that shape the country’s collective future.
He urged Nigerians to “listen carefully, examine the records and ideas before us,” and make their decisions freely, thoughtfully and without fear or undue influence.
According to him, democracy is strengthened when citizens are free to ask questions, hold leaders accountable and choose according to their convictions.
Damiyal also urged Nigerians not to allow political differences to overshadow their shared responsibility to the country and future generations.
He called for a renewed commitment to freedom, justice, dignity and responsible citizenship as the country continues its democratic journey.
“May this Independence Day renew our faith in the Nigerian spirit and inspire us to build a society founded on freedom, justice, dignity and responsible citizenship,” Damiyal said.
He wished Nigerians a happy Independence Day and reaffirmed his vision of a “Safe, United & Prosperous Plateau.”
