The leadership and stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Plateau State have reaffirmed their support for Mr Alfred Dapal Damiyal as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 elections, insisting that the affirmation process conducted on September 15, 2026, remains the basis of their position.
The reaffirmation was made at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, where participants expressed their collective resolve to uphold the process through which Damiyal emerged as the party’s flagbearer.
According to stakeholders at the meeting, the September 15 affirmation exercise was witnessed by party stakeholders and an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which they cited as an important part of the process that produced Damiyal.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for party leaders and stakeholders to express their determination to protect the integrity of the party’s established procedures and resist any attempt to interfere with the process that produced the candidate.
They stressed the importance of respecting the party’s internal mechanisms and ensuring that decisions reached through recognised procedures are upheld in the interest of unity, stability and organisational discipline.
The stakeholders further maintained that the opposition, being in a state of panic over its impending defeat, was trying hard to infiltrate the ranks of the party and induce members to truncate the party’s forthcoming victory in the state. They urged party members to remain vigilant, united and committed to the party’s established processes.
They also maintained that the party’s attention should remain focused on strengthening its structures, engaging the electorate and preparing for the 2027 governorship election.
They called on members and supporters to remain committed to the party’s collective decisions while allowing the appropriate institutions to address any matters requiring formal clarification.
The meeting ended with a renewed expression of support for Damiyal and a call for unity among party leaders, stakeholders and members as the NDC continues its preparations for the forthcoming electoral contest in Plateau State.
