The Joint Union of Academic Staff of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUASPTI) has suspended its indefinite strike following the signing of an agreement with the Plateau State Government on May 17, 2026.
In a statement issued on May 17 and signed by the union’s Secretary, Com. Dakyen Mark Makmis, JUASPTI said the decision came after prolonged deliberations and the signing of an agreement between both parties.
“Sequel to this, the indefinite strike is hereby suspended. Members are hereby directed to resume work with immediate effect as we look forward to the implementation of the agreement,” the statement read.
The strike, which began on April 30, 2026, was to demand the implementation of the 25% and 35% CONPCASS salary table approved by the federal government in 2023.
According to the statement, further negotiations led to an understanding on the modalities for implementation, which was presented to chapter congresses and accepted.
JUASPTI commended members for standing resolute during the struggle and assured that every article of the agreement would be pursued to a logical end for the welfare of all members.
The statement was jointly signed by the union’s Chairman, Com. Cirfat Yaknan Bulus, and Secretary, Com. Dakyen Mark Makmis.
