The Mikang Local Government Council has dismissed what it described as misleading claims surrounding the statutory allocations received by the council, insisting that recent figures being circulated by critics have been taken out of context.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Head of Media and Publicity to the Executive Chairman, Nkat Joseph Lakai, said the figures being circulated represent cumulative allocations to the local government over a specified period and should not be attributed solely to the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Bernard Soepding Alkali.
According to the statement, Dr. Alkali assumed office on October 9, 2024, and therefore cannot be held responsible for allocations received before his administration came into office. It described attempts to link previous allocations to the current leadership as misleading and aimed at creating a false impression among the public.
The council maintained that despite financial constraints, the administration has recorded significant achievements within its 19 months in office, citing interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, security support, and rural development.
The statement further explained that a substantial portion of the council’s monthly allocation is committed to recurrent expenditures, including salaries, pensions, wages, and allowances. According to the council, these obligations account for about 70 percent of monthly receipts, leaving a limited amount for capital projects and other development programmes.
Despite these commitments, the administration said it has continued to execute projects and improve the welfare of residents across the local government area.
The council therefore called on members of the public to disregard what it described as politically motivated misinformation, insisting that the performance of the current administration should be assessed based on its record since assuming office.
It added that the visible projects and developmental strides recorded across Mikang remain a testament to the administration’s commitment to service delivery and grassroots development.
