The Local administration in Pankshin has intervened to restore power supply at the Pankshin General Hospital and some parts of the Bwarrak Community in the Council area.

This intervention followed an outcry by members of the Bwarrak Community and the General Hospital in Pankshin, who had been in total blackout for over three months.

The blackout was caused by the vandalism of the Transformer at the General Hospital which serves the Hospital and the Bwarrak Community.

The Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council, Felix Gonung who visited the area expressed concern over the vandalization of the Transformer by hoodlums and assured residents that his administration will do everything possible to prevent further occurrences.

The Chairman also paid an on-the-spot assessment visit where he assessed the level of damage on the transformer, and ordered the immediate replacement of vandalized accessories by providing the funds for the rehabilitation of the Transformer.

The Council Chairman expressed dismay over the period of time in which the affected Communities stayed without an electricity supply especially at the General Hospital where electricity is needed constantly.

In the same manner, the Executive Chairman has also intervened on the outage of electricity supply to the Pankshin Water Treatment Plant which has caused a significant lack of water supply within Pankshin Metropolis. The people in Pankshin town have decried the lack of water supply which has lingered for quite a while.

In his efforts to ameliorate the suffering of his people and after making his findings, Hon. Gonung discovered that a fault at the Power Holding facility caused the lack of power supply to the treatment plant. Hence, the Executive Chairman personally visited the site and ensured that it was fixed before he left the scene.

The representative of the Power Holding Company in Pankshin appreciated the Executive Chairman for his timely intervention and promised to fix the problems especially the transformer within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Treatment Plant has been fully connected to the power supply.

Hon. Gonung also visited the Pankshin Water Treatment Plant where he was conducted round by the Manager, Mr Peter Gujor.

The Manager explained to the Executive Chairman about the major problems confronting the facility where he noted that the lack of Power supply had hindered the supply of water in Pankshin but with the Chairman’s intervention, they can pump water for public consumption.

The Manager also took the Executive Chairman round the facility where he explained that the management can hardly meet up with the demand for alternative power supply due to the high cost of Diesel.

He further explained that, “the generating plant at the facility consumes 1 drum of Diesel in two hours and we need 18 hours to pump water that will be used in 4 to 5 hours. That means we need 9 to 10 drums of Diesel to pump water that will be used for a few hours every day.

The Executive Chairman, after touring the facility promised to specially pay attention to the Treatment Plant and provide the necessary inputs that will guarantee water supply in Pankshin Local Government Area.

The Executive Chairman immediately declared a ‘State of Emergency’ for the sanitation of the Water Treatment Plant. The sanitation is to commence within 24 hours after the visit. He further reiterated that, “as we all know, water is life, and one of the priorities of my administration is to ensure that potable water is available for our people in Pankshin. Pankshin as a local government listens to the yarning of the people and treats issues with the urgency they deserve. The Executive Governor H.E Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is given us all the necessary support to succeed and Pankshin is leading in areas of critical intervention.”

The village Head of Wulmi Nde Joseph Chinkul who is the leader of the host community of the facility expressed satisfaction with the Executive Chairman over his genuine concern and the various interventions he has embarked on in Pankshin Local Government Area.

He also maintained that the Executive Chairman has shown great leadership prowess and prayed that Pankshin will be better under his leadership.
