The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, resulted in multiple fatalities, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, will run from 12 midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026. Authorities say the measure is aimed at restoring calm and preventing further breakdown of law and order in the area.
Announcing the decision in a press statement, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, said the government took the step in consultation with security agencies after the unfortunate incident on Sunday.
The government, under the leadership of Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked. It assured residents that efforts were ongoing to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
Residents of Jos North and surrounding areas have been urged to remain calm, stay indoors during the curfew period, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid investigations.
The commissioner noted that security operatives have already been deployed to maintain peace and enforce the curfew, while assuring the public of government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The government also called on community leaders and stakeholders to support efforts aimed at restoring peace in the affected area.
