Plateau State High Court has adjourned to October 29, 2026, the application by Jos North Local Government Council seeking to set aside the June 9 judgment on the Jos North indigeneship case.
Checkpoint Nigeria gathered that the local government is challenging the earlier default judgment, which was delivered after it failed to appear in court.
At Friday’s proceedings, counsel to Jos North LGA and the three indigenous groups—Berom, Afizere and Anaguta—Garba Pwul, SAN, objected to the appearance of a new legal team representing Fatima Akawu, arguing that the lawyers were not originally on record.
Counsel to the respondents, Edward Pwajok, SAN, said the dispute was purely procedural, while Yakubu H., SAN, representing Baba Alhaji Akawu, maintained that Fatima Akawu and her father are separate parties with the constitutional right to engage different lawyers.
Following arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the matter to October 29 to rule on the issue of legal representation before proceeding with the substantive application.
