The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, Mrs. Gloria Soepding Bernard, has encouraged schoolgirls to maintain proper menstrual hygiene, describing it as essential to their health, confidence, and education.
She gave the advice during the distribution of sanitary pads to secondary school girls from the four districts of Mikang Local Government Area. The programme was held at Government Secondary School (GSS), Piapung, as part of efforts to raise awareness on menstrual hygiene and support adolescent girls.
Mrs. Soepding commended the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Wife of the Plateau State Governor for supporting the initiative. She said the programme would help ensure that no girl is held back from school or denied opportunities because of menstruation.
Speaking during the event, the Director of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Mrs. Kaneng Alexander Pam, educated the students on proper menstrual hygiene practices. She advised them to maintain good personal hygiene, use clean sanitary materials, change them regularly, and dispose of used pads properly to prevent infections.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Nungkat Eukuk, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to programmes that promote the health, education, and well-being of girls across the local government.
The Education Secretary, the PTA Chairman of GSS Piapung, and the school’s Principal also spoke at the event. They praised the initiative and encouraged the students to put into practice the knowledge they received while making good use of the sanitary materials distributed.
The event also featured a cultural performance by students of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Baltip, which added colour and excitement to the programme.
