The Returning Officer for the Mikang State Assembly APC rerun election has suspended collation and ordered fresh elections in four federal wards following incidents of over-voting and violence recorded during yesterday’s exercise.
Results collated from six federal wards so far indicate that Hon. Timdi Nkat is in an early lead with over 1,000 votes ahead of the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel. The collation which is taking place at the Mikang Local Government Secretariat in Tunkus, the council headquarters. Aspirants, party stakeholders, observers, agents, party faithfuls and members of the press witnessed the process.
The affected wards where fresh elections are scheduled to commence by 8:00 a.m. today are Tunkus, Lalin, Piapung A and Piapung B federal wards.
Our correspondent reports that the Returning Officer assured party members that the rerun process would be free, fair and transparent, while security agencies have equally guaranteed a peaceful exercise.
Observers and party members who monitored the election described the process as largely free, fair and credible, expressing confidence that the rerun would provide a conclusive outcome for the party’s State Assembly primary election in Mikang.
